Found this gem of a story via Little Green Footballs. Since I am not a current or former police officer, hence have no dog in this hunt; decided to ask Najia her opinion of this matter in comparison to her experience in Holland. She gave me permission to post her answer to my question, so here it is.
Whoooa this is outrageous! Now I can't compare police in Holland with England's or the US as far as conflict resolution, but I'm thinking of all the times I had to go into people's homes to help resolve domestic issues, a simple handshake with the parties involved was always helpful if the situation called for it, it's a nice friendly gesture indicating that as police officers we were there to help first and foremost and not help escalate the problems and throw someone in jail. I'm also thinking of the instances where I was dispatched to cases where someone fell ill, I'd be touching them in places that would normally be off limits in order to help save their lives....and what about instances of mouth to mouth resuscitations? I've had some of those instances too. Or what about having to frisk a crossdresser after their booked, not knowing beforehand what he/she has hidden between her/his legs, I've had to deal with that too.....the Judo training I had involved lots of practice with male counterparts, and the fights I've been involved with tackling male counterparts....hell I can go on and on giving you examples of physical contact with the opposite sex. I mean WTF??? It's not about sex dammit! It's about maintaining order, helping people in need and helping keep the peace. She should have known beforehand what she signed herself up for. I say cannnnnn the b*tch! If she wants to make a political statement she should start blogging or something, the police force is not the place. (;<
I am left scratching my head also. Could she be a crosswalk guard? Would she dare touch a non-Muslim boy mis-behaving? How about a traffic Bobby going after speeders, what will she do when she stops a man? Call for back-up and stand three meters away? She is useless as a police officer.
Here it seems we see a mind more bound by dogmatic thinking than by the strongest shackels ever applied to ankle or wrist to enslave someone. Scharazade had more freedom.
Even the one supporter quoted can't support her desire not to touch men during the course of her duties. Massoud Shadjareh - He added that those employed in jobs such as police officers or doctors would not have a problem with touching people in order to fulfil their duties.
Training her has been a waste of taxpayer money and the police ought to recoup those expenses from her immediately. If the police do nothing, then they encourage a casual disregard of rules and procedures which will have long term detrimental effects on the police force.
