History of the hijab....how did it come to this:

Most likely women wore the hijab way back when not as a fashion statement, but a practical way to protect themselves from environmental elements such as heat from the sun and dirt from dusty roads.  Now we find out that women were actually forced to cover because of some stupid horny idiot seeking revenge because he got himself a booboo on his forehead.

Soooo here is how the hijab was born according to Sheik M.L.:

And also tell the believing women to lower their gaze".

So the concept of hijab in Islam starts first with controlling the eyes...but not only controlling the eyes. Controlling the eyes on the one hand, on the other hand the ayah followed: "Tell the believing women also that they should draw the khimar.  The khimar was something that they were already covering their heads with, but they should draw it to cover their bosom, which means the neck and the chest should also be covered."

Splintered Netherlands

Reading Der Spiegel's article on the Dutch elections.  The author calls this Amsterdamned.  I call it Balkanization of the polity.

The Dutch electorate is not sure which way to go so no one gained a clear mandate.  Though the writer is daring to call the likes of Jan Marijnissen conservative since the author argues the electorate rejected reformers.  I am sorry but a Maoist is not a conservative and neither are portions of Wilder's party conservative.  Both were winners because of fears - Wilder the loss of Dutch identity and Marjinissen the loss of all those government programs, not as a mandate against change.  So once again the Dutch government is paralysed while the various splinter parties see who can they live with from the centre to form a coalition government.  Which will last until somone has a conniption and destroys the coalition so once again the Netherlands will have to have elections.

If the political spectrum in the Netherlands continues to migrate to the extreme positions then Wilders fears of losing Dutch identity will be borne out as the famous Dutch tolerance vanishes.  While those who side with Marjinissen will be for greater state control and probably more restrictive laws in regards to anything anti-multicultural.

Time for Holland to wake-up, decide what are truly important ideas and positions they can agree on, and marginalise the extremes of both ends before there is no going back.  And unlike the Czech and Slovakia 'Velvet Divorce' I really don't know if Holland will be that gentle in dealing with extreme ideologies.

Dutch Police Going A Bit Extreme?

The Hague Police is sending 25 officers to Morocco with the intent to familiarize themselves with Moroccan culture.  Why?  Oh just another one of those hopeless attempts to better understand Dutch-Moroccan criminals in their neighborhood, I'm sure.

I'm thinking why do need to do this?  And why do they have to go all the way to Morocco to pick up the Moroccan ways?  Doesn't it make more sense to become familiar with Dutch-Moroccan culture IN Holland instead?

You can go to a Moroccan ghetto pretty much in any big city in Holland and get even faster results....or why not take a field trip to some Dutch prison to talk directly to Dutch-Moroccan criminals?  You'd be saving a heck of lot of money on airfare plus accommodations, but what do I know, right?

Meanwhile...

Drachten Police is about to unveil the most luxurious jail complex in all of Europe, complete with everything you'll need to make you feel warm and cozy while your sorry ass is detained.....aaah just like home.  I am not kidding!  The Police says that "detainees have to be treated like guests"....imagine that!  Heck, even the floors are heated, AND they get to watch TV and play computer games too.

So what the heck is wrong with this picture?

Thank you all for all the well wishes and cheering me up.  The little time-out was long overdue, but I'm doing fine now......been very busy taking care of stuff and finding time to relax.   Don't be like me and wait too long.

When I was a kid I used to stare at it sometimes because the colors cheered me up and inspired me to do fun stuff.

Netherlands, Elections, and the Burka

November 22 the Netherlands will have another election, the third in five years.  Interior Minister Rita Verdonk is once again in the news.

The ruling coalition is proposing a law that would ban the covering of the face by such things as full face helmets , articles of clothing that covered fully the head, and .. wait for it .. the burka.

Naturally the CMO [Holland's version of CAIR] is in full uproar about this, saying this making much of nothing since only 30 to 100 women wear the all encompassing burka in the Netherlands.

Verdonk and others are arguing this is a matter of security since terrorists could use such an all encompassing attire to slip through checkpoints and launch attacks.  Lets remember the departed and not missed Zarqawi in Iraq used the burka to escape capture on several occasions.  The recent ruckus in Gaza in which Palestinian women were wounded during a standoff stemmed from the women entering a combat area to bring such things as women garments to help the male terrorists escape the Israelis who were surrounding them.

So the crying from the CMO is not working on me at all.  Muslims have brought the burka, hijab, and the jilbad into disrepute by abusing the very Western code of respecting women to escape capture or carry out attacks. Until groups like CMO raise their voices against these abuses, then their crocodile tears about being oppressed will fall on my deaf ears.

And maybe this will lead to the liberation of more Muslim women in the Netherlands by freeing them from the restictive and segregating attire of the burka, hijab, and jilbad.  As some in Dutch politics argue, how can you talk to someone when all you see is their eyes?  Everything about these garments renounces the things that make the Dutch so likeable.

Najia Update

Well everyone just to let you know, Najia is doing okay.  She is just recharging the batteries and sorting things out in her life.  She also would like us with posting rights to keep posting while she is away.

Free Kareem!

Blogger Kareem was thrown in jail because he dared express his thoughts about the corruption of Islam and the Egyptian regime.

On Monday, November 6, Abdelkareem was interrogated by prosecutors in the Mohram Bek district of Alexandra. The security officials challenged Abdelkareem over opinion columns he has posted on his weblog, http://karam903.blogspot.com/.

A human rights lawyer from the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information was present to represent Abdelkareem. But the police still decided to arrest him.

I urge you to act now to ensure Abdelkareem's immediate release. Thank you.
