Obama will not be invited to Prince William's wedding

Surprise surprise!

Apparently Obama is not considered a people's president by the British royals, why else wouldn't they invite him to the "people's wedding"?

You think BP Oil has anything to do with this?

Hah I wonder if they'll get an invite.

I wouldn't be surprised.

After all, it was the British "people" who complained the most about experiencing hardship due to the BP oil disaster, while lashing out at the Obama administration especially for how BP was treated and prolonging the crisis.

President Obama and his wife Michelle will not be invited to Prince William's wedding next year.

Because Prince William is not yet heir to the throne, his wedding to Kate Middleton is not classed as a ‘state occasion’ – and the couple feel under no pressure to fill the 2,000-strong guest list with heads of state, the Mail understands.

They are more eager to ask ordinary citizens and charity workers than foreign dignitaries and VIPs to what will be the first royal ‘people’s wedding’, courtiers suggested.

A handful of heads of state are likely to be invited in line with previous royal weddings, possibly including France’s President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni.

Actor Edward Norton helps create 'Facebook of philanthropy' - CNN.com

(CNN) -- Actor Edward Norton has been in the spotlight for more than 15 years. But what some fans might not know about him is his work off-camera -- helping raise hundreds of millions of dollars for charitable projects over the course of his career.

For Norton, giving back has always been a passion -- so much so that he recently helped create what he calls the "Facebook of philanthropy."

The website is called "Crowdrise" (www.crowdrise.com) and the goal behind it is to make charitable giving fun. Norton and his friends saw an opportunity to change how people give online.

"We were very frustrated by what we saw out there. Everything out there was just ... we called it 'use and drop,'" Norton said. "It was just a button where you can donate and really nothing more, and we wanted to communicate more than that."

Crowdrise is a fundraising web platform that's also a community.

Stem Cell Transplant Cures HIV In 'Berlin Patient' 

On the heels of World AIDS Day comes a stunning medical breakthrough: Doctors believe an HIV-positive man who underwent a stem cell transplant has been cured as a result of the procedure.

Timothy Ray Brown, also known as the "Berlin Patient," received the transplant in 2007 as part of a lengthy treatment course for leukemia. His doctors recently published a report in the journal Blood affirming that the results of extensive testing "strongly suggest that cure of HIV infection has been achieved."

Brown's case paves a path for constructing a permanent cure for HIV through genetically-engineered stem cells.

Update 12/15/10, Human Rights activists get arrested:

Video of Sudanese woman being flogged prompts protest - CNN.com

The demonstrators belonged to the Women Initiative Against Violence, and 52 of them -- 46 women and six men -- were arrested for unlawful assembly, the Khartoum State Police Force said in a statement.

All 52 persons were released under bail, police said.

The two-minute video has caused an uproar in Sudan, and columnists in pro-government newspapers have called for an immediate investigation. Much criticism focuses on how the flogging was carried out.

Retired Dutch politician tells Jews in the Netherlands to migrate to Israel and USA to avoid Moroccans

Former European Commissioner Frits Bolkestein, who is often cited by Geert Wilders as his biggest hero and mentor, has suddenly reappeared out of obscurity, only to feed the growing hatred towards Moroccans in The Netherlands and crank up the already heightened level of fear among Jews a few notches higher. 

His outrageous statement calling on practicing Jews to migrate to Israel and the USA - citing the growing antisemitism among Dutch-Moroccans as the reason - has caused an uproar among his former colleagues in parliament and ticked off some prominent members of the Jewish community as well.  Oddly enough even Geert Wilders disagreed with Bolkestein on this one, saying that it's Mococcans who are guilty of antisemitism who should migrate and not the Jews.

 

Meanwhile, Geert Wilders himself was busy making his own outrageous statements while on an official visit in Israel recently, saying that Jordan should absorb Palestinian refugees and rename itself Palestine.  In addition to that, he urged Israel to build more settlements in "Judea and Samaria", aka the West Bank, as a strategic move towards self-defense, and it's not the first time he's said such either.

 

All I can say about this insanely fascist conduct by Dutch politicians, who seem to be going out of their way to cause strife...that it ultimately boils down to the Dutch government's need to grow a spine, enforce its existing laws against hate speech and discrimination and start putting national interest and domestic stability first and foremost.  Enough already!

Man barely saved from train – CNN

An off-duty police officer named Angel leaped off a subway platform Friday in Madrid, Spain, and dragged a fallen man off the tracks just as a train arrived.

The officer said on the Spanish National Police YouTube channel that he had been standing on the platform with his girlfriend when people started shouting.

"I observed a stir at the station, and then I saw the man who had fallen on the tracks," he said while calmly narrating a video of the dramatic rescue.

"My Lebanese Sri Lankan" - "سرلنكيتي لبنانية"

Recently there has been an overabundance of reports on the abuse and torture of Sri Lankan maids taking place in countries all over the Middle East and elsewhere in Asia.  It's great to see that finally something is being done about this poblem.

To raise awareness on the abuse in Lebanon, this video presents a picture where the roles are reversed, putting (what appears to be) a Sri Lankan in charge of a Lebanese maid, and to a add a special twist to the whole, the Lebanese maid is referred to as "Sri Lankieti" in Arabic, meaning "my Sri Lankan [maid]" as if calling someone a "Sri Lankan" is equal to calling someone a "maid", but in a way that dehumanizes her, as if she's just a tool, merely intended to serve, be enslaved to others and be denied all human dignity.
